How to perform skill moves in FIFA 15
How realistic is EA Sports’ latest trip onto the soccer pitch, FIFA 15? According to their latest ad campaign, the new game looks to put players right in the middle of the action for release.
When selecting ultra-attacking or ultra-defending in FIFA 14, it always felt like a placebo effect. Although you’re in desperate need for a late equaliser in the Champions League Final and wanting Chris Samba or Per Mertesacker to join your strikers upfront as you throw the proverbial kitchen sink, you never quite believed the mentality, intent or positioning of your players altered. However, FIFA 15 feels like that even the slightest tactical change will not only be carried out by your team but also carried out correctly.
New ball physics introduced last year will be supplemented with truer momentum that takes some explaining, but when FIFA 14 and FIFA 15 are compared side by side, the difference is stark. In previous games, a ball passed to a teammate lost all of its momentum as soon as it contacted him. A pass that hit a player’s raised leg, for example, would fall directly to the ground. Now its momentum is preserved, and such a pass could skip off to either side or even pop up in midair, making passing less magnetic or automatic, a continual goal of the series.
According to EA, this type of behavior is universal, and FIFA 15 aims to immerse players “in the game so they feel and experience everything that happens on the pitch,” according to a recent statement. Due out here stateside on Sept. 23, we only have a couple more weeks to wait in order to find out if the developers deliver on that promise.
So maybe that was a healthy dose of hyperbole, but I think we can all appreciate what EA and FIFA is trying to say with this “Feel the Game” campaign. I mean, did you check out that new trailer? It takes a little bit to build but, once things get rolling, we have folks getting shot across their living room and whatnot.
The skill stick is for all grades of players. Moves including a simple step over up to the intricacies of a rainbow can be dealt from here. The skill stick is a whole other skill to learn. There is no easy step to mastering the maneuvers. Practice makes perfect when it comes to skill moves, so open up the skill moves in the options and study your butt off. There are a lot of moves to memorize, but adding them to your arsenal will transform you into an improved player.
The simplest skill moves in FIFA 15 are sometimes the best and the body feint/ball roll certainly falls into that category. Dirty Mike swears by the it! If you’ve ever watched him stream you’ll see him breezing past players all the time. Only 2 stars are needed for the ball roll so pretty much any player in the game can do it but you’ll need slightly more skilful players for the body feint at 3 stars.
The trick is to make your opponent over commit then body feint into the space he’s just some from and watch him fly past. As with most skill moves misdirection’s the key. Attack the space behind players as they overshoot the tackles. To do the ball roll hold the thumbstick left or right. To perform the body feint flick the right thumbstick left or right and push the left thumbstick in the direction you want to exit the move.
Look for shots
Another custom instruction you can give certain players is to get them to move into a good shooting position whenever there's the possibility of a cross coming in (when you're racing down the wing with the ball, for example). It's very useful if you have good finishers on your team.
Mount swarming attacks
None of these tactics are foolproof, but if I had to stick with one, I would choose run near post and try to get a header from a tight angle. Don't make the cross too powerful or the ball might go too far.
Dribbling angles
Try not to turn so sharply with this one. Just run in the direction of the arrow. This will allow more room for error and also allows your player to maintain some of his speed.
Timing the switch
At this moment you’re too committed with this player. You should switch players immediately when the space behind the defenders open up. You do it a second too late which is why your player stands still when you eventually switch.
