Last year’s FIFA debut on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was a capable, albeit incomplete, release. This year’s title has all of the features that franchise fans would come to expect. Plus, the developers have had more time to let the next-gen Ignite game engine mature. The beefed-up graphics are here, and the overall presentation is more nuanced. Like with last year’s Ignite rookie offering, pre-game ceremonies include more camera angles. The crowds are a lot more detailed. You can make out the blades of grass on the field if you zoom in closely. Player models look better as well.

Ignite also provides for improved physics, which enhances the gameplay. Passing and shooting feel realistic and have a nice weightiness. The ball has a natural, unpredictable nature to it. Players jostle constantly. Defenders will grab jerseys and slide aggressively into opponents, causing chaotic collisions. These elements, combined with updates like enhanced goalkeeper A.I. lead to the type of gameplay you’d want from FIFA.

No roster updates are available at this time, but when they are available, the information will be available via the official FIFA Twitter account. Mastering the various skill moves is important if you really want to become deadly with the ball in scoring range. It takes some practice, but once you pull off your first tricky ball maneuver, you'll be hooked. *Tip—Don't dismiss the skills games. They can really help you get a handle on all the passing and shooting weapons at your disposal.



Other new tactics from the CPU that show a decided increase in footballing nouse by the developers in the new ‘playing for time’ method, but one such annoying new staple to the format has been the head-scratching introduction of ‘Fergie Time’ when it comes to the end of ninety minutes and the addition of injury time. Why is it always 5 minutes? Regardless of the fact that there have been no bookings, no fouls, no sending’s off…nothing?  “ Five minutes Mr Ferguson? “ asks the groveling  fourth official, “ That’ll do nicely “, says a cheery Sir Alex, “ and would you like to rub my bunions while you are down there? “

More new on-field experiences await gamers in the form of the totally re-vamped goalkeepers. Those of us who have had more than a few hair-pulling moments in the past thanks to these ‘guardians of the goal mouth’ will understand our scepticism when hearing of the ‘adjustments’ to the keepers, however, our fears were unjustified as EA Sports have done yet another sterling job of of bringing genuine authenticity to the ‘man between the sticks’.

All told, FIFA 15 is set to be the biggest and best than ever after EA Sports extended its partnership with the Premier League. The gaming giant will continue its long-standing association with the top-flight as its official sports technology partner until 2019. The undisclosed deal will showcase the Premier League as the most authentic league in FIFA 15, with an unprecedented level of detail in the players and all 20 stadiums. Goalline technology will also feature for the first time when the game hits the shelves in the UK on September 26 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The deal has given EA access to capture 3D head scans of over 200 Premier League players, plus capture the emotion of the crowd by recording live match atmosphere during the 2013/14 season.
